NASCAR’s first race weekend in 2021 will be the Daytona 500, but the race’s star driver won’t be joining the festivities.
Tony Stewart will not make a return to Daytona for the race, according to sources.
The Daytona 500 race will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021.
Stewart will be a free agent at the end of the season and he could be looking for a new team.
The timing of his departure is a surprise, as he’s the only driver who has missed the Daytona 50 event this season.
In fact, NASCAR announced last week that Stewart has a contract with Stewart-Haas Racing.NASCAR released a statement to FOX Sports:It is very unfortunate that Tony Stewart is no longer part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
We have worked hard to find a new sponsor for the event and are in the process of finalizing the details of a deal.
The timing of this decision does not bode well for the future of our sport and the fans who have supported Tony Stewart over the years.
